CNN anchor Jake Tapper kicked off a search for the best lyrics to rival Jay-Z's "Open Letter," Hova's ad hoc rap addressing the controversy over his and Beyoncé's U.S. Treasury Department-sanctioned trip to Cuba, with an offering of his own today during The Lead.
"So, [White House press secretary] Jay Carney says nothing rhymes with treasury? Sounds like a Twitter challenge to me. Show us your rhyming skills!" Tapper encouraged his audience. "Let's see, using Beyoncé's nickname B...How about, 'Got cleared from Treasury, we can travel at your leisure, B.'"
We suggest he not quit his day job, but a valiant effort.
Tapper wasn't the only one inspired by Jay-Z's Obama-checking missive, however: Fox News political contributor Dana Perino—aka "Tiny D Day-P"—also threw her hat in the ring (although no word if she's entering Tapper's #treasuryrap contest on Twitter).
"I was inspired earlier today as I was reading this [story]," she deadpanned, "and rap is such a complicated form of music and I gave it a shot, if you want to take a look."
"Well my name's Tiny D and I'm here to say, I bust funky-fresh rhymes in a major way," Perino raps in a video played today on The Five.
"So I'm white like Casper, got a dog named Jasper, if you don't think Beyoncé fears me, go ahead and ask her/So if you love Castro, stick with Jay-Z, but if you love your freedom, pick Day-P, that's me."
Sounds like someone has fallen into the Stacey Dash camp.
