LL Cool J and Brad Paisley continue to address all the talk surrounding their controversial collaboration, "Accidental Racist."
"You can't fit 300 or 400 years of history into a three- to four-minute song," LL told Jay Leno while appearing on Thursday's Tonight Show. "In no way would I ever compare the history of the Confederate flag with a do-rag. However, when you think about a kid like Trayvon Martin, and you think of some of the things that happened in society based on clothing, when you put it in its proper context, it makes sense."
The rapper added, "As long as people are having a conversation, then the art has done its job. America, as a whole, we need to come together. We don't need to be talking about tearing the fabric of society apart. We need to be connecting with each other and becoming closer as human beings and loving one another."
Meanwhile, on Friday's Good Morning America, Paisley shared a similar sentiment when asked about how he and LL came to record the tune.
"We kind of felt it was a conversation between two people who really respect each other, exploring, kind of in a role-playing way, that the topic might be a healing thing and I still believe it can be," the country singer said.
The track appears on Paisley's new album, Wheelhouse, due out next Tuesday.
