The Pitch Perfect 3 actress took to Twitter Tuesday to respond to a report that she's in talks to play Adele on the big screen. "I have never been offered to play Adele in a biopic...completely made up tabloid story with fictitious unnamed source!" she tweeted. "Love Adele though X." Wilson might consider doing it someday, but told a Twitter user it "would depend on the script xx."
The casting rumor stemmed from the U.K.'s Daily Star. Earlier in the week, a source told the tabloid that Wilson "always wanted to prove she can cut it as a serious actress," adding, "This is going to be a huge challenge for her because Adele is a legend at the peak of her popularity. Rebel can't match Adele's vocal talents but she can certainly sing. And, with a little technical wizardry, she'll sound just like her in the movie. She is desperately hoping to get Adele's blessing."
Given that the movie isn't happening, Wilson doesn't need it. But even if she did, it seems unlikely Adele would sign off on it. "I've heard there are rumors about Rebel Wilson will be playing me in a movie. Let's see if that turns out to be true. She'd need my f--king permission," the singer said in concert Tuesday. "Just because I'm plus-sized doesn't mean she's playing me."
Wilson appeared on BBC's Radio 1 Breakfast Show With Nick Grimshaw Thursday, where the Australian actress admitted people have often mistaken her for the British singer. "Sometimes I get confused for Adele," she said. "And I'm like, 'Are you kidding me? Are you serious? She's, like, well better." Just as Adele does, Wilson has a passion for the arts. "I love musical theater. In high school I was in productions of Grease and Fiddler on the Roof. I just loved singing all the time in boarding school. I would just sing, sing, sing and drive the other girls crazy, but I wasn't formally trained. I always thought if I wasn't a professional actress I would go on X Factor or Pop Idol and I would crush it," she said. "But now that I'm in movies I don't need to go down that path."
