We all let out a sigh of relief as we watched the first ten minutes of the red carpet at last night's Golden Globes. (Statement lips aplenty, people!)

If you read our People's Choice Awards coverage, you know we were traumatized by the boring parade of nude lips, and feared the worst—that this dull trend would spoil into the 2014 award season.

Never fear! Celebrities like Lupita Nyong'o, Zooey Deschanel, Cate Blanchett and Emma Watson proved the power of a statement lip by wearing a spectrum of colors ranging from shiny crimson to matte pink.

The nude lip trend, which washes out everyone in its wake, still managed to pollute the likes of Julie Bowen, Heidi Klum and Naomi Watts. Bummer!

Black eyeliner also ruled the red carpet Sunday night. Whether used for a winged eye, smoky eye or to line the waterline, stars like Mila Kunis, Zosia Mamet and Julia Roberts all put their black eyeliner to use.

When it comes to the hair department, one of the biggest trends we saw was the side-swept low chignon, seen on Deschanel, Kate Beckinsale, Margot Robbie and Parenthood's Monica Potter.

And there may not be any hair gel left in the state of California after stars like Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts and Jenna Dewan opted for the slick look.
