Frank Micelotta/Getty ImagesNirvana fans went into a frenzy today after rumors began swirling that the Seattle Police Department had reopened the investigation into the death of Kurt Cobain.
But authorities quickly took to Twitter to clarify the reports and explained that no such thing had occurred.
"Despite an erroneous news report, we have not 'reopened' the investigation into the suicide of Kurt Cobain," the Seattle police tweeted from their verified account.
They then posted that there has been activity around the closed case, but not exactly what was first speculated.
"Our detective reviewed the case file anticipating questions surrounding the closed Cobain case as the 20 yr anniversary approaches."
So what initially sparked all of the hullabaloo recently?
Well, Seattle detective Renee Witt revealed that four rolls of 35 mm film taken at the scene of the singer's death were developed just last month.
And to be fair, that is pretty significant news considering it's been almost 20 years to the day when Cobain sadly took his life.
According to Witt, however, the photos do not show anything new that would change the ruling on the case.
The Nirvana frontman was found dead in his home on April 8, 1994, with a gunshot wound to his head.
His death was ruled a suicide, and according to the coroner's report, Cobain had also injected a lethal dose of heroin beforehand.
