While many of us think of twerking as Miley Cyrus' staple move or a dance that we only do when we're feeling extra saucy in the club, 22-year-old Jessica Vanessa saw it as a potential career and went after it.
The blond Floridian quit her job as a kindergarten teacher's assistant to become a professional twerker, and it's perfectly OK to be slightly confused as to what a "professional twerker" really is because...what?! But in Vanessa's case, it's actually pretty simple. She basically decided to dedicate all of her time into making twerk videos that she can post on her Vine account.
And surprisingly enough, her plan paid off—literally.
Vanessa has a large following on the social media website—nearly two million—which catches the attention of potential advertisers, who offer to pay her serious cash to mention their products while shaking her booty.
So just how much is she making now? Six figures. Yep, you read that right.
During an interview with Barcroft TV, Vanessa said, "What I make in six seconds would take me four months to make as a teaching assistant...It's quite simple really, the more followers you get, the more advertisers want to pay you for mentioning their products. And I've got lots."
She also noted that with her twerking money she's been able to purchase a car and pay off her school debt.
Vanessa admits that she's received some backlash on the Internet for her bum-shaking ways, confessing that she's had "two breakdowns" and considered getting rid of her social media accounts.
One person who was a little hesitant with Vanessa's new career path was her father Rafael de Leon. "As a parent I still see her as my little girl, I don't see her as an adult," he said, but adds that he's got her back (no pun intended). "She could be forty years old and she'll still be my baby. It just keeps expanding more and more, no matter what she does I'll just keep supporting her 100 percent—I love everything she does."
So what have we learned from all of this? Practicing your booty shaking in front of the mirror is not a waste of time, and, um, follow your dreams?
