The talk-show host is joining GLAAD's campaign lobbying the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay teenagers and scout leaders.
"It's wrong to deny any boy a chance to learn the values and be a Scout. No one should be excluded. #BoyScouts glad.org/Scouts," he tweeted.
Dr. Phil (full name: Phil McGraw) also added on his Facebook page that as a former Scout himself, there's nothing more vital than upholding equality among the troops, especially given the impressionable age at which they participate.
"Let's give ALL boys the chance to become a Scout," the 62-year-old psychologist wrote. "Discriminating against young men and families simply because of who they are is wrong. The Boy Scouts should be an example of inclusiveness. As a former Cub Scout, I don't want any child to miss the opportunity."
Dr. Phil is speaking out at just the right time.
GLAAD has been pressing the organization to implement a national nondiscrimination policy, and the Boy Scouts of America's 1,400 members are scheduled to vote on a resolution to that effect on Thursday in Texas.
The gay-rights group has also enlisted other celebs to lend their voice to the change including Madonna, Benicio Del Toro, Julianne Moore, Josh Hutcherson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Jersey Shore's Snooki and Sammi, among others. Previously, director Steven Spielberg also resigned from his position on the Scouts advisory board to protest the ban.
